To My Daughter, on Your 28th Birthday
What a privilege it has been to be a mother to you in this lifetime. And I know, somehow, I would find you in every lifetime.
I will love you forever + always.
I’m so grateful we have made it this far together. I’m so fucking proud of you. I love the heart you carry, the kindness you give, and the way you love so deeply and completely in your own way.
I honor all the spaces in which you express yourself, and I will always do my best to understand them—to understand you. I can’t imagine a life where I wasn’t able to tell you how much I love you, how proud I am of you, or how much being able to mother you has changed me.
It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life simply to be in your atmosphere—to watch you grow, learn, become, and continue to find your own way through this world.
Being a mother to you has taught me unconditional love on an entirely different level. You have taught me that everyone moves through this life differently, learns differently, communicates differently, and finds their own way of becoming who they are meant to be.
Our family may look different. Our relationships may move differently. The way we love one another may not always fit neatly into what the world expects a family to look like, but it is ours, and it is strong. I’ve learned that love doesn’t have to look one particular way to be deep, unwavering, and unconditional.
You have brought so many lessons into my life, but even more than that, you have brought so much love.
I don’t know if I could ever fully express the gratitude I have for the mirror you have held up—not only to me, but for me. You have challenged me to see myself more clearly, to grow, to learn, and to keep reaching toward the highest version of myself.
You inspire me more than you know.
From watching you learn how to walk twice, to watching you navigate this life with such determination and curiosity, with an incredible drive to learn, participate, experience, and be included—you continue to show me what perseverance looks like.
Thank you.
Thank you for the grace you have given me.
Thank you for the love you give me.
Thank you for the lessons.
Thank you for allowing me to grow alongside you.
And thank you for continuing to inspire me to become more fully myself.
What an honor it is to have been given the opportunity to be a mother to you.
Happy 28th birthday, my angel.
I will find you in every lifetime.
Forever and always.
